Presenter: Professor Gurch Randhawa FFPH, Director of the Institute for Health Research Advisor to NICE

Professor Gurch Randhawa (Director, Institute for Health Research at the University of Bedfordshire) has secured over £12m research income, working on a range of projects related to improving access and quality of health services. Most recently, part of a European consortium that have been awarded over 2 Million Euros from the European Commission to examine the role of Culture aware robots and environmental systems for elderly support. Has previously undertaken the national evaluation of NHS Direct and a Clinical and Cost Effectiveness Service Evaluation for Cambridgeshire Telehealth and Telecare Service (please see Appendix A for list of relevant publications). Served in various roles in the NHS – over 12 years as NHS Chairman, with an extensive understanding of commissioning; served on NICE Advisory Group so has an in-depth understanding and experience of evidence-based policy making; most recently served as National Member of the Department of Health Challenge Group for the Triennial Review of NHS Blood & Transplant – providing insight into evidence-based policy making. Professor Randhawa was recently invited to join the Eastern Academic Health Science Network (EAHSN) as Operational Researcher.
