Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in ICU

Dr Milena Georgieva is consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. She was trained in highly renowned centres as Hadassah Medical University Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel and University College Hospital London, UK.
Her special interests are point of care ultrasound of the critically ill, focused echocardiography and anaesthesia for vascular surgery and trauma.
Dr Georgieva is the FICE (Focused Intensive Care Echocardiography) lead for Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK.
Dr. Vilas Navapurkar is the senior specialist clinician in general Intensive Care medicine in Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he has been a consultant for 20 years. He led the unit as Director of Intensive Care from 2010-2015. The care provided on the ICU is universally acknowledged to be world class in its outcomes and its patient-centred ethos. He has led, resourced, delivered or overseen the:
  • expansion of the ICU services;
  • development of “ICU without walls” with the Rapid Response Team;
  • implementation of EPIC clinical information system;
  • introduction of a psychological support service for patients, relatives AND staff;
  • formation of the ICU Patient Focus Group;
  • formation and funding of The Cambridge ICU Sepsis Group consisting of Addenbrooke’s clinicians and scientists from PHE and The Sanger. This group is led by Dr. Navapurkar and working on frontier medicine in the rapid diagnosis of infection and metagenomics;
  • development and deployment of digital technology to allow ICU patients to communicate;
  • excellent and effective relationship with Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.
Dr. Navapurkar has taught on several leadership and development programmes in Cambridge University and for Cambridge based multinational businesses. He is also a FA Level 1 football coach for his son’s football team Saffron Walden U8s.
